5 Tips for a Good Layout

A good layout is essential for a good web design. While there are many elements to a good layout, here are 5 key tips that you can keep in mind.

Simplicity: A simple and clean web design is always a pleasure for the user. It makes an impact. This does not mean the design has to be minimalist, but it should not be crowded either.

Central Layout: Make sure to position your site centrally. Sites that have a central layout work better towards making an impressive.

Fewer Columns: Till a few years back, the trend was to have three columns. Now two columns is the order of the day. Why? The reason is quite simple. The fewer columns on a page, the more simple and clean it looks. This is able to get the message across to the user more clearly.

Easy Navigation: The first thing to ensure easy navigation is to separate the top section of the page from the rest of the screen. The main branding and global site navigation area must stand out and not merge with the main content. Distinct top sections enhance usability by telling a user quite clearly where he is on the site. Moreover, this will allow the user to easily know what choices he/she has for operating further and the visitor can select what he/she is interested in. If you have other links on the page (apart from the top section) always make it a point to place them separately from the content. You can use different colors or sections.

Search Box: Place the search box on the top right on every page. This is where most people will look for it.
