Easy Ways to Test your Design on Different Browsers

A web design is complete only after it has been tested on different browsers. If you haven’t tested your design on various browsers, you can be sure that millions of people would be impacted. Don’t take my word for it … check out these statistics!

In 1997, 90% of the Internet user market share meant you were targeting around 60 million users. Last year, a 9% market share represented more than 90 million users! So, even if say Opera has a market share of less than 1%, we are still talking about millions of users.

Now that you know it is absolutely essential to test your web design on different browsers, you may be wondering how you can do this easily. Doing it manually could take you hours. So, here are a few services that will make testing your web design an easy task:

Browsershots.org – It is a free service that generates screenshots of your web design on a wide number of browsers working on different operating systems like Windows, Mac OS X, BSD and Linux. You can enter the URL of your website and just with a single click. The service starts taking screenshots of your website. Since it is a free service, the delivery of screenshots can take anywhere between 10 and 45 minutes.

LitmusApp.com – This is a paid service, unlike Browsershots, but the difference is visible right from the user interface to delivery timings. If you are short of time for testing your website on various browsers and operating systems, you can try out LitmusApp. The base plan is priced at $18 per day, which allows for unlimited screenshots.

BrowserCam.com – This is a more advanced service that allows for testing the design elements on computers as well as mobile platforms, such as Windows Mobile and PDA. A different type of service provided by BrowserCam, called VNC Remote Access, lets you get a dedicated virtual machine with the desired combination of OS and browsers for testing design elements, like rollovers and flash animation. For people willing to try BrowserCam, there is a one-day trial version available. The trial version allows access for 24 hours and a maximum of 200 screenshots can be taken.
